The Soulcial Trust’s “Swachh Bharat” mission organizes city cleaning operations in New Delhi, India.
The Delhi based team at the Trust has organized several city cleaning operations involving both able bodied and people with disabilities who come together to help make Delhi beautiful.
The objectives of the initiative are twofold:
- Firstly, to clean up some of Delhi’s most beautiful parks of the vast quantities of trash littered along the paths and in the bushes
- Secondly, to show that it is the responsibility of ALL citizens, young and old, male and female, abled and disabled, to keep India clean.
Guddu Panwar Singh, Operations officer in New Delhi, Soulcial Trust, (who is himself an amputee and moves around on a skateboard), said “Disabled people are not unable or incapable; we are simply differently abled or specially abled. This doesn’t prevent us from getting down and clearing up trash. We see the the Swachh Bharat mission as fundamental to India today and we are proud to be able to participate, just like any able bodied person can and should.”
At The Soulcial Trust we combine our Green Influence mission with our XLability project to include people with disabilities in India and Cambodia in our environmental missions as well as our wheelchair sports programme.
