Volunteer Abroad with Soulcial TravelNovember 24, 2017
Morgane, a social worker from France, volunteered with Soulcial Trust for 5 months in Siem Reap, Cambodia. She worked to create the first wheelchair basketball team in Siem Reap and ran trainings for the first two months. Although not her first time abroad, it was her first time in Asia and a completely different experience from her previous experience away from her home.
“I joined Soulcial Trust in Cambodia as a volunteer because the idea of developing adapted sports activities for people with disabilities challenged me. Sport, as it has been for me, is a good way to overcome difficulties, learn to gain self-confidence and become independent. People with disabilities in Cambodia are unfortunately considered ‘incapable’ and without a future.
“I enjoyed participating in the launch of wheelchair basketball in Siem Reap last September and watching the rapid progress of the players, all victims of war explosions and polio. All, without exception, showed me their determination to move forward and believe in a better future.”
Volunteering is a fulfilling experience, both at home and abroad. If you’re interested in volunteering outside of your home country, Soulcial Trust can help! We run an online platform, www.soulcialtravel.com to connect volunteers and NGOs for free. We aim to make your volunteer experience more meaningful to you and more impactful for small organizations.
